Things to do in Richmond this summer
Hugging the banks of the iconic River Thames, the picturesque and historic town of Richmond is the perfect place for a summer escape. And this season, there are a whole host of events in the local area to enjoy, from
family-friendly days out to music festivals and active adventures, all within easy reach of The Petersham.
The leafy town of Richmond is full of stunning trails for walkers and cyclists. Richmond Park is less than five minutes’ walk away and is bursting with picturesque walks and routes for everyone from seasoned walkers to relative novices. Walkers are spoilt for choice and can enjoy a wide variety of pre-planned walks, including a route from Pembroke Lodge taking in some of the best views in Richmond or the 7 ½-mile Tamsin Trail covering the entire perimeter of Richmond Park.
But the best part about visiting Richmond Park definitely has to be the deer – there are 630 red and fallow wild deer roaming freely throughout the area.
Throughout the summer, organised sporting events will be taking place including the Run Richmond Park Race on Saturday 3 June and Saturday 17 June, the London 10-mile at Richmond Park on Sunday 4 June, Richmond Race for Life at Old Deer Park on Sunday 4 June, Relay for Life at Barn Elms Playing Field on Saturday 15 July and the Summer Riverside 10k at Richmond Riverside on Sunday 22 July.
Richmond is a prime location to host various musical events and festivals this summer, including the likes of picnic concerts at Kew the Music Festival, A-list shows from Elton John and U2 playing at Twickenham Stadium and open-air concerts at Hampton Court Palace Festival.
