Sergio’s inspiration for cooking came from his childhood growing up on the Portuguese Madeira Island, surrounded by an abundance of fresh fish and local produce. As a young man Sergio began working in the local markets, igniting his soul for produce and then for cooking.
His formal culinary training started on Madeira before moving to England in July 2009 where he worked in a number of London’s finest kitchens. Extensive experience has developed his distinctive approach to cooking that of ‘flavour’ combined with the ‘classics’. Appointed Head Chef at The Petersham in July 2023, Sergio brings a wealth of hard earned knowledge, professionalism and culinary passion to The Petersham, creating exceptional dining experiences supported by his team’s relentless strive for excellence.

Umit has worked at The Petersham for an incredible 21 years, joining our team in 2003. Originally from Kusadasi, a coastal town in Turkey. Umit has embraced life in England with open arms.
Having worked in several top London restaurants, Umit now lives with his wife and son near Richmond in Isleworth, just a twenty-minute cycle ride along the river to The Petersham.
A firm Liverpool supporter, Umit has welcomed many football faces and celebrities to The Petersham restaurant over the years. His exceptional attention to detail and warm humour are Umit’s two vital ingredients.
